Traditionally, video production meant high costs, limited internal expertise, and time-consuming updates, especially in the legal sector, where regulations and laws change frequently. That challenge led me to discover Synthesia, an innovative AI-powered platform that uses AI avatars to present material much like a traditional presenter would.
Video content is a powerful way to add variety and engagement to online learning when used thoughtfully. It excels at explaining complex concepts, summarising key points, and bringing real-world scenarios to life, making learning more memorable and impactful. Of course, the quality of the input directly influences the quality of the output. Using this tool effectively still relies on the creator’s ability to apply instructional design strategies that manage cognitive load, drive engagement, and enable learning.
In my current role, we’ve expanded our use of Synthesia-generated video content across multiple products and marketing initiatives. Its wide range of customisation options allows us to create videos that align seamlessly with our brand and learning objectives. Learner feedback has been especially positive when the videos are used for short microlearning modules or scenario-based content, where concise, targeted delivery has the greatest impact.
I’m excited to see how Synthesia’s future features will push the boundaries of what’s possible. Curious to see it in action? Check out a marketing video I created for the Law Society’s Risk, Compliance, and Regulation page.
